I’ve spent most of the last two days working on Kanar.org.
Most of the work has been on backend code, as usual. The original permission control system we put in place doesn’t map well to the way the site is used (largely because the site isn’t being used the way we anticipated), so that’s getting rewritten. I also wrote a new UI for the administration functions, since the pretty themed interface doesn’t mesh well with tons of graphs and such that the admin UI needs.
I’ve also worked on a number of front-end features, like the discussion forums for KGE staff, and the wiki.
My work would have gone far, far faster, I might note, if Comcast wasn’t being such a pain. There’s something unpleasant about working over an SSH that lags (and occassionally just freezes entirely until timing out) as badly as my connection does now.
We’ve finally got Comcast coming out to work on things. Hopefully they can figure out whatever is causing the problem and get it correct, so I can work without the immense lag-induced frustration that I’ve been struggling with the last month or so.
For the last month, my ‘net connection has been absolutely abysmal.
It still peeks at nice high speeds, but the latency is just infuriating. Often unusable. Frequently a connection just flat out stalls, and I have to restart it. (For example, refresh a page in my browser.)
The worst part is trying to get coding work done over SSH. SSHing into my network from the outside is practically unusable. SSHing out from my network is generally bearable, so long as I haven’t had too much suger that day.
I really wish there was a usable alternative where I live.
It is slightly overdue to note that Happiness has entered my life. And, for those who don’t yet know, Happiness’s real name is Laura. :-)
Aside from her blissful presence, other things are also happiness enducing in life right now.
KANAR has started up again, and I’m in full swing on that front. This year is looking really, really good. I’m as excited as I’ve ever been about KANAR.
School is going very well. Work is still there and paying me. All in all, everything is peachy-keen.
Now I just need to start working on my coding projects again. For now, though, I’m too busy dealing with KANAR administrivia and being blindingly enamoured with my angel. :-)
